Estate planning means putting your affairs in order for when the inevitable happens (your passing) after all, it will happen to us all at some stage. It means arranging the transfer of your wealth and assets to those you wish it to go to after your death (usually your family).
It also takes into account planning for later on in life such as the preparation of trusts in your Wills, Lasting Power of Attorney documents, or any other required arrangements to ensure that your life is in order and you have done everything you possibly can to make is easy for your family to deal with at a very difficult time after you have gone.
The bottom line is, we do not know when we are going to die. We don’t know what will happen before we die, whether we will have or lose our mental capacity. We don’t know whether we will require life-sustaining treatment; whether we will need care or what our family make up will be…will they still be here, are they still talking to each other, have they fell out with each other etc. etc.
